ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS OF BIOFUELS
TIME: October 4th, 2005; 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
LOCATION: Physics Building, Room 114
SPEAKER: David Pimentel, PhD, Professor of Ecology and
Agricultural Sciences, Cornell University BIO
(.pdf) >
Dr. Pimentel will explore the production of ethanol and biodiesel fuels and discuss his finding that it requires significantly more fossil fuel inputs than what is produced as either ethanol or biodiesel implying that increased biofuel production would actually increase the amount of oil and natural gas that have to be imported by the U.S. In addition, Dr. Pimentel will discuss environmental impacts of biofuels, including soil erosion and chemical pollution.
